Following an impactful four-year tenure as the President of the Managing Board of the Association of Serbian Architectural Practices (ASAP), Zabriskie co-founder and partner Vladimir Đorić spoke with the leading regional architectural portal Gradnja.rs to reflect on the profound transformation of the local architectural scene.

In an extensive interview, Vladimir summarized the achievements of ASAP, which has successfully united and articulated the architectural profession in Serbia, evolving it from a historically fragmented landscape into a cohesive, powerful business platform. A central theme of the discussion was the imperative to recognize architecture as a vital branch of the economy and entrepreneurship. Đorić emphasized that only by adopting a structured, business-oriented mindset can architectural practices effectively negotiate, improve market conditions, and elevate the overall quality of the built environment.

“We must view architecture as a branch of the economy and entrepreneurship – only then can the profession engage on equal terms regarding the improvement of market conditions.”

The interview also addressed critical institutional and structural challenges, including the current role of municipal planning commissions, systemic collaboration with state authorities, and ASAP’s ongoing strategic initiative to establish an independent Chamber of Architects of Serbia, modeled after European best practices.

Although concluding his mandate on the Managing Board, Vladimir Đorić will continue to actively contribute to the organization he co-founded, now serving as the Head of the Committee for Public Advocacy and International Cooperation. Zabriskie remains committed not only to designing and developing integrated architectural solutions but also to continuously working on elevating the standards of the profession itself.
